IT sphere is the most competitive in Armenia
"The year 2009 marked a turning point in the sphere of information technologies. We had an unprecedented growth of 17 per cent in all directions," Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said during the 10th conference of the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE).
According to the Armenian Premier, joint programs have proven efficient and helped increase the number of IT enterprises.
"Internet is becoming more and more available to larger strata of the public. In this context, we highlight the government programs and the support of international financial structures," said Mr. Sargsyan.
In 2009, 30 million drams were allotted to the UITE from the state budget.
The conference was attended by Rich Goldman, Vice President of Synopsys Inc.
"The sphere of information technologies is probably the only competitive field in Armenia which can make Armenia leader overseas. The sphere simply needs intelligent people that are few in Armenia. Besides, the IT sphere enables Armenia to cooperate with the world through the Internet. No physical or geographical restrictions can hamper the sphere's development," Rich Goldman told A1+.
Asked whether the closed border with Turkey did not hinder the sphere's progress, Mr. Goldman said: "Surely, the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border will improve the quality of the Internet but closed borders do not get in the way IT."
