The Yerevan municipality refuses to give certificates of privatization to 14 families living in the hostel located on 49/4 Komitas Street.
According to them, 90% of the residents were able to privatize their residential section; however, the municipality is postponing the solution to their issue for an uncertain period.

The building used to belong to Armenia's Refugees and Migration Department which granted the kitchen section of the hostel to these families. The residents renovated it and made some accommodations. But the hostel currently belongs to Yerevan municipality.

"In 2008 we addressed the municipality with the request for privatization, but we have received neither a positive nor negative response. They say the alderman's council still hasn't set an order for management of property and will let us know the news," hostel resident Arusyan Baghramyan told "A1+".
The building lacks a balcony, gas and an air conditioner. The residents refuse to waste extra money to renovate them because they are not sure if they will be thrown out or not.

"We fear that they may kick us out. How can you trust the laws these days? They might come and throw us out and give our residencies to others."
Another resident, student Lena Khostikyan, said she had moved with her disabled child in 2003 and fixed up the apartment by herself. "We demand privatization according to the law."
As evidence, the residents showed "A1+" several letters with receipts which had been accepted by the municipality since 2008.
