Minister of Nature Protection forbade construction in Gilan preserve
The Minister of Nature Protection of the Republic of Armenia, Aram Harutyunyan instructed Vorontsov Barseghyan, Director of "Khosrov Forest" reserve to forbid the construction in "Gilan" wildlife preserve.
"I categorically forbid the construction irrespective of all documents and permission at hand and put the whole responsibility on the director of "Khosrov Forest". Mr. Barseghyan is to contact me and report on violations. I shall personally arrive and settle all issues," the Minister said during his visit to the reserve.
During a meeting with NGO representatives the Minister said they would first study the material to clarify their further steps.
Remind that a few days ago environmentalist Mariam Sukhudyan raised an alarm on the illegal construction resumed in "Gilan" preserve which, according to Ministry senior representative Aram Aghasyan, was intended to be an ecotourism resort.
During an event dedicated to the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought hosted in the UN Yerevan office on June 18, the Armenian Minister of Nature Protection promised to discuss the issue with organizations dealing with ecological issues.
On June 19, the Orhus Centre hosted a working meeting between the WWF Armenia and NGOs dedicated to the issue of Gilan preserve.
During the meeting Minister Aram Harutyunyan also said the residents of Gilanlar would receive adequate compensation.
