Twenty-six convicts who went to protest in the "Sevan" Penitentiary Institution have stopped the action.

They had ascended the roof of the building demanding early release. The protesters stated they had sent most of their sentences and could be granted early parole by law.

"We had to descend, as the prison administration did not allow our friends to meet their relatives. If we continued our protest, we would deprive other convicts of a chance to see their family members," said the protesters.

The convicts stopped the protest after the prison head Arsen Khshtoyan promised to ensure their security. Khshtoyan also promised the protesters to arrange a meeting with a representative of the Justice Ministry.

"We are struggling for our freedom," they said.

The convicts will start termless hunger strike if their request is left unaddressed.
