4 people died
In the past couple of days, 16 cases of food poisoning due to the use of toxic mushrooms were registered and led to the death of 4 out of 31 victims, as reported by the RA Ministry of Health.
The poisons were caused by the use of mushrooms that the patients collected in Kotayk, Lori, Ararat, Armavir provinces and Yerevan.
In 2010, there were 7 cases of botulism that led to the death of 1 out of 11.
The intoxications were due to the use of conserves of red pepper, bell pepper, marinated cucumbers and eggplants in Kotayk, Tavush and Shirak provinces.
To avoid food poisoning, the Ministry of Health advises
-not collecting, buying and using unknown mushrooms
-buying mushrooms only from the market and stores that have documents given by the competent body
-not buying conserves prepared at home
-preparing conserves in non-hermetic containers
-keeping conserves prepared at home in heat for 20-25 minutes
