Teen girls detained over emo suspicion
On November 18, Yerevan police detained seven teen girls over suspicion of being emo. The reason for detainment was a souvenir, a skull with two small daggers, one of the girls gave to a friend.
"Since my grandmother is superstitious and thinks that keeping similar things at home brings misfortunes to family members, I decided to present it to a friend who would take a good care of the skull. After putting the souvenir in the bag, we walked to the children's railway," one of the girls, Kara, told a press conference today.
According to the girls, the railway employees stopped them on noticing the skull.
"We suggested them to keep the skull and promised to fetch it on the return way. But they started to quarrel with us. Soon we found ourselves surrounded by policemen."
ccThe girls say they were badly treated in the police department and called Satanists.
Kara says during the detention she was wearing a pink dress , something characteristic of emos.
The girls state the policemen pulled their hair dragging them to a police car. In the police department the girls received ill-treatment.
"If you have an informal style of dressing it does not mean you are an emo and pose a danger to the society. All shops sell such souvenirs. Should they arrest sellers and buyers? Emos are overly emotional and sensitive people who present no danger to the society. Everyone can commit suicide - be he an emo or not," said Tsomak.
