42 programs in 15 years
In the course of 15 years, 42 university programs and 60 individual grants have been implemented and are being implemented through the Tempus program in Armenia, which is funded by the European Commission.
In light of the 15th anniversary of Tempus in Armenia, representatives of several Armenian universities attended an event entitled "Informative Day of Tempus" at Yerevan State University to get acquainted with the terms and conditions of the 4th tender of Tempus IV.
Before the attendees would get acquainted with the program's main functions and the technical conditions for participation, they were greeted by YSU Rector Aram Simonyan and RA Deputy Minister of Education and Science Ara Avetisyan. They especially attached importance to the collaboration between universities. According to Aram Simonyan, whereas before Armenian universities wanted to collaborate with foreign universities alone, today they are jointly presented in inter-European programs.
Ara Avetisyan also attached importance to the program and mentioned that the programs implemented within the framework of Tempus help Armenian universities overcome a number of issues related to the introduction of the new educational system.
"Our university has participated in 6 out of the 42 programs," said associate professor of the Department of Municipal Construction at the Armenian State University of Architecture and Construction Nune Chilingaryan.
According to her, in addition to the modernization of the teaching staff, another important fact was that thanks to this program, the university kept its achievements, such as the equivalent of the diploma in France.
Representatives of the Georgian and Ukrainian offices of Tempus delivered speeches about the developments and current reforms.
In the course of 20 years, Tempus has spent 1.5 billion Euros for the professional development in Europe. There are 1,400 EU universities, as well as 700 partnering educational institutions participating in the program.
