The Yugoslavian plane rushing to help those who suffered from the 1988 devastating earthquake was just 12 kilometers from landing.

But the plane transferring rescue equipment, medicine and food fell in the fields near the Etchmiadzin-Armavir highway, killing the seven Serb pilots. The memorial complex built from the pieces of the plan is in memory of them.

Every year on December 7 people gather at the memorial complex to respect the memory of their fellow compatriots, as well as the friends who extended a helping hand and those who weren't able to extend that helping hand.

Citizens of Etchmiadzin laid flowers and wreaths in memory of the victims under leadership of the mayor of Etchmiadzin.

"We are obliged to support the people who need that and not only financially. Moral support is more important in that it will fill the souls of people with warmth and hope," said Mayor of Etchmiadzin Karen Grigoryan.
