Cases of swine plague discovered in Sisian region
The outbreak of African plague epidemic in the village of Mutsk, Sisian region, led to the forced slaughter of 22 pigs.
There are 200 pigs in the village. The first symptoms of the epidemic were recorded in the village in January. Desperate villagers were forced to slaughter the animals without knowing the reasons for the outbreak.
Village elder Drastamat Navasardyan immediately contacted the State Veterinary and Food Safety Inspection of Syunik.
Edgar Tokhsatsi, Head of the State Veterinary and Food Safety Inspection, says five pigs were f slaughtered in Mutsk against the reported 22. A group of veterinarians will arrive in Mutsk to prevent the further spread of the epidemic.
frican plague does not communicate to other animals or people, but, to be on the safe side, specialists recommend avoiding eating pork of infected pigs: an infected animal meat has darker color. There is no remedy for it, not even a vaccine.
The only way to prevent the epidemic is to find the infected animals as soon as possible and slaughter them.
