A crane collapsed in downtown Yerevan on February 9, killing 65-year-old hoister Volodya Karapetyan on the spot.

The accident occurred at 4:10 p.m. near Byuzand Street.

"Police officers and rescuers are working on the site," Nikolay Grigoryan, a spokesman for the Armenian Rescue Service, told A1+.

"Thank God, we have had no other losses as the street is usually overcrowded at this hour of the day," he added.

The crane belonging to MLL Industries Company hit the façade of building #15, breaking windows and damaging several cars.

The crane passed technical inspection on March 9, 2010. It had a problem with the braking system but the fault was not eliminated.
