The Central Committee of the World Council of Churches has addressed the events taking place in the Middle East. In his speech, General Secretary of the WCC Olav Tveit underlined that the church must play an important role in the establishment of peace and justice in the Middle East.

The Central Committee of the World Council of Churches held a subsequent meeting in Geneva from the 16th to the 22nd of February.

During the meeting, the Committee discussed issues related to the preparations for the International Ecumenical Peacekeeping Conference to be held in Jamaica, the state of Christians in the Near East and the changes that the WCC has proposed within international organizations. Among participants of the meeting were delegates of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
