Microsoft opens new innovation center in Yerevan
Microsoft Corporation today opened an innovation center in Yerevan which is equipped with modern ecologies. The new center is meant to give a fresh impetus to IT sphere.
The official opening ceremony organized at the State Engineering University was attended by Minister of Economy Tigran Davtyan, Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan, U.S .Ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch and Microsoft Yerevan Office Director Grigor Barseghyan.
The centre was opened in cooperation with Microsoft Array Company, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Enterprise Incubator Foundation and the Armenian State Engineering University.
According to the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia, their investments in the program totaled $ 850 000 which was mainly spent on training courses.
"When clever people come together, they can achieve great results. The centre will undoubtedly have its impact on the ideas and programs of individuals and groups," said Marie Yovanovitch.
Minister of Economy Tigran Davtyan noted that the Armenian government is taking every effort to assist in IT sector.
"The center will support the best ideas that can help create a new product which would have a demand on both the domestic and international markets. It will implement short- and long-term programs to give students and specialists new skills and knowledge for bringing their ideas to life," a company's representative said.
The new center aims to promote innovation in Armenia, revealing new ideas and proposing IT solutions for different sectors of economy.
