The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin strictly condemns the daring statements alleging the Armenian Church and ascribing things to the Catholicos of All Armenians," announced Head of the Mother See Information Office, Father, priest Vahram Melikyan.

Melikyan touched upon the statement issued by architect Samvel Karapetyan and the "We Won't Stay Silent" youth initiative.

"Mr. Samvel Karapetyan has completely distorted the conversation with the Catholicos of All Armenians. It is shameful and obscene to present oneself more heartfelt toward the preservation of churches and holy places than the Catholicos of All Armenians or any other diocesan leader and clergymen, for that matter.

All churches and monasteries are in the center of attention of His Holiness, but the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin is incapable of renovating all monasteries at the same time and has declared several times that the preservation of Armenian spiritual heritage can only be implemented under the patronage of and with support from the government.

With that said, the Mother See, with its limited funding, follows up on the churches and monasteries that are more in need of renovation. The renovated temples and those in the process of renovation, including the Geghardavank, Haritchavank, Saghmosavank and Noravank monasteries, Khor Virap, the St. Khach in Aparan, Tatev Monastery and many others show how nonsensical the allegations are," as stated in the statement.
