Who will be 7 billionth Armenian?
The world population is expected to hit the 7 billion mark on October 31, but the UN is unlikely to choose the 7 billionth person of the globe from Armenia, says Garik Hayrapetyan, UNFPA Assistant Representative at the UNFPA Country Office in Yerevan.
Hayrapetyan says the 7 billionth person will probably be born somewhere in China or India which are the most densely populated countries of the world.
Whatever decision the UN takes, the UNFPA Office in Yerevan will publicise the name of the 7 billionth resident in Armenia.
The UN's choice of which baby to dub the world's seven billionth person will be purely symbolic, given that thousands of babies are born every hour and it would be impossible to work out exactly which deserves the title.
Over 10 000 babies are born in the globe every hour.
