ASPU to become the best in training
Eleven experts from the Oulu University of Finland visited the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan and are working with 47 Armenian colleagues. Thirty-five of them are professors of the pedagogical university, and twelve of them are guest experts from different Armenian universities, including universities in Goris, Gavar and Gyumri that are members of the ASPU consortium.
The RA Ministry of Education and Science and the program implementation agency developed a World Bank-funded program that gave the ASPU the opportunity to choose a partner, and that partner is the Oulu University of Finland. Oulu University is known as one of the best pedagogical universities not only in Finland, but across Europe as well. In May 2011, experts from Oulu University paid a cognitive visit to ASPU and spent this week preparing educators at the university in Armenia.
The Finnish experts are sharing with Armenian experience the experience that is a required standard in Europe. The program, which will run from October 2011 to January 2013, will include frequent meetings, discussions on ideas and development of programs.
It is foreseen to change not only the process in universities and curricula, but also the structure of management, funding and resources at ASPU, the creation of a career center and more in-depth study of quality assurance. After preparing experts, the ASPU will become a leading university in terms of teacher training and qualification.
