Yerevan citizen starts open-ended hunger strike
Yerevan citizen Leyla Asatryan is starting an open-ended hunger strike outside the Municipality building on Wednesday demanding the city authorities to restore her violated rights.
Asatryan wants to privatize 100 square meters of land which she has been cultivating for 18 years but each time she is denied for ungrounded reasons.
"While they continue denying me, one of my neighbors, a well-off person I would not like to name, has privatized the continuation of the plot and is carrying out construction there. What is the difference between us? I do not want to start construction; I only want to cultivate the land," said Mrs. Asatryan who is eager to meet Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan.
I want him to restore justice. If Article 60 is applied to me neighbor, it must be applied to others as well," she continued.
Today the woman was received by Grigor Saribekyan, Advisor to the Yerevan Mayor. After the meeting, she announced that she did not trust anyone but the mayor ‘who is her only hope.'
Grigor Saribekyan hurried to console the desperate woman saying a playground will be built there.
Still puzzled, Asatryan asked, "How can you give permission to one of the neighbors and deny the other?"
In reply, the municipality official suggested holding a detailed discussion with relevant bodies.
Leyla Asatryan is going to continue the strike until the issue is resolved positively.
