School vacation extended
Public schools will open on January 23 this year.
"At the end of the semester, the minister gave his consent to let the schools without heating open on the fixed date," Head of the Department for Public Education at the RA Ministry of Education and Science Narine Hovhannisyan said during a press conference today.
She also mentioned that the schools that extended winter vacation would not give students a spring vacation and would hold lessons on Saturdays.
According to the head of the department at the RA Ministry of Education and Science, out of Armenia's 14,000 schools, 342 are in winter vacation and 20 of those schools are in Yerevan. The ministry representative says the ministry has solved the issue of heating in all provinces.
Mrs. Hovhannisyan mentioned that students are absent at all schools regardless of heating.
"We always face this problem after the holidays. That is not the school's fault, but the parents and the students. There are schools where the principals say the number of students has declined," Narine said.
