Appeal to Serzh Sargsyan
Twenty prisoners sentenced to life in prison today postponed their previously declared hunger strike at Nubarashen Penitentiary.
Head of the Department of Public Relations of the Penitentiary of the Ministry of Health Gor Ghlechyan told "A1+" that the prisoners had appealed to Serzh Sargsyan with the desire to meet with his representative to receive clarifications regarding the amendments to the RA Criminal Code.
The prisoners demand the revision of their cases by the order stipulated by the law and make the punishment match with the amendments to the RA Criminal Code so that they are imprisoned for 15-20 years.
Some prisoners of Erebuni Penitentiary have also appealed to Serzh Sargsyan with an open letter on conditional or premature release.
"Our rights related to conditional-premature release are frequently violated for no reason. We are always told that it is the president's decree. The commission on conditional-premature release holds sessions and denies us for no reason," as stated in the letter.
The letter has been disseminated by the public observer group in charge of public control of the Penitentiary of the RA Ministry of Justice.
