46 million women obliged to abort
According to the World Health Organization, out of the 210 million pregnancies around the world, 46 million of them end with mandatory abortion and nearly half of them have been considered unsafe (they were conducted by either low-quality doctors, or in non-hygienic conditions or in both conditions) and have led to the death of 67,900 people a year on the average.
The medicine for abortions contribute to the reduction of mothers' illness and death rates especially in the countries where there is a lack of resources, experts in abortions and where healthcare services are not affordable.
Studies have shown that many women prefer abortion through medicine since that ensures the maximum safety and helps women control the process of abortion.
Abortion through medicine is an alternative to an operation and has to only be carried out at a clinic after an examination conducted by pediatricians and gynecologists and under their supervision.
Since 2007, the Women's Rights Center has been involved in protecting women's reproduction and sex health. During the past years, the center has published and distributed informative booklets and literature on abortions through medicine for women and pediatrician-gynecologists. The center has also held training courses with pediatrician-gynecologists at the maternal wards and medical institutions in Yerevan and the provinces, reports the Women's Rights Center.
