16-year prisoner to receive 25 million dollars
U.S. citizen Sedeusu Jimenez, 32, has spent 16 years of his life in prison due to the court's wrong ruling.
The Chicago Federal Court ruled to compensate 25 million dollars to Jimenez for spending half of his life in prison, report local mass media outlets.
In 1993, 13-year old Jimenez was arrested for murdering a 19-year old minor. After two separate trials, he was acknowledged as guilty and was sentenced to 45 years in prison. However, in 2009, one of the eyewitnesses declined his testimony, and the real culprit was found.
In 2010, the court lifted the murder charge against Jimenez, giving him the opportunity to demand compensation from the court.
After two years of trials and tribulations, Jimenez's attorney finally managed to receive the court's approval.
However, the former prisoner won't receive the money soon. He is now charged with 3 years of imprisonment for keeping illegal narcotics.
