In the past 66 days, the Traffic Police of Armenia have levied a fine of 145 million drams from drivers who violated traffic rules.

Since January 17, surveillance and speed cameras installed at some busy junctions in Yerevan have registered 21000 violations of traffic rules.

Hayk Sargsyan, deputy head of the traffic police, says compared to the same period last year the number of road accidents has seen a significant decline.

"Road accidents have decreased by 11, resulting in six deaths, and 160 injuries," he said.

The traffic police official again reminded that drivers are fined 10000 drams for speeding up on roads. The amount of the fine increases in the second and third cases.

Hayk Sargsyan says cameras also fix violations by pedestrians but the traffic police have not sent them notes about violations since they cannot be identified.
