"We don't think the report corresponds to the real ecological situation in our country and we demand the preparation of a new report that will show an objective evaluation of the ecological situation in Armenia," said the presidents of four environmental non-governmental organizations today.

The heads of Ecodar, Bird Lovers' Center, Ecolur and Nature Protection and Democracy NGOs made this statement after getting acquainted with the section devoted to nature protection in the RA National Report on the RIO +20 Progress Assessment.

As stated in the NGO leaders' statement, they can't agree with the part of the report in which it is stated that Armenia has registered great progress in the sphere of nature protection that falls in line with the principles of stable development.

We mention that tomorrow Minister of Nature Protection Aram Harutyunyan will moderate the public debates over the draft RA National Assessment Report of the "Rio +20" Global Summit devoted to stable development. The report was prepared by the national commission coordinating the preparations for Armenia's participation in the "Rio + 20" Global Summit, which is headed by the RA Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Nature Protection.

According to the RA Ministry of Nature Protection, among the participants at the public debates will be representatives of Armenia's non-governmental and international organizations, state departments, as well as the spheres of science, education and business.
