Injured girl: “Have the guilty been found?”
Five girls and two boys are still at a reanimation department after receiving injuries during balloon blasts during the concert-rally organized by the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) at Republic Square on May 4.
Head of the Reanimation Department of the Radiation Medicine and Burns Center Hovhannes Aslanyan told "A1+" that the patients' lives weren't at risk.
"We have two patients in critical but stable condition and five patients in almost critical condition."
According to the head of the reanimation department, the youth have received burns in the upper parts of their bodies, face and head.
The youth and their parents are in a heavy psychologically situation and they are visited by psychologists.
"Everyone was afraid. They were very stressful, but the parents, relatives and friends play a huge role," said Dr. Aslanyan.
Currently, 19-year old Meline Karapetyan from Armavir is in the heaviest condition. According to Dr. Aslanyan, Meline's face and upper part of her chest are burnt. "Thank God her life isn't at risk." Like the other youth, Meline also refused to answer any questions and only asked at the end: "Have those responsible for the incident been found?"
"A1+" tried to find the answer to this question from the RA Police.
The RA Police press service reported that a criminal case had been brought up under Article 240 (1) of the RA Criminal Code.
"We have interrogated 150 people so far and have scheduled more than 100 expert examinations, including forensic medicine, forensic explosive-technical. The preliminary investigation body knows who set the balloons and how transferred them to the square. The final results of these examinations will allow us to clarify who was responsible," said head of the press service Ashot Aharonyan.
When asked whether the police knew what kind of gas was used to fill the balloons, Aharonyan said that would be clear after the expert examinations.
Based on official statistics, 154 citizens were injured from a balloon explosion during the HHK's rally at Republic Square on May 4.
