Observer of the Helsinki Association Arman Veziryan today was charged with Article 118 of the RA Criminal Code, and his signature to not leave the country has been applied as a precautionary measure.

Veziryan's attorney, Nina Karapetyants is certain that by changing Veziryan's status from being an injured party to a culprit, the prosecutor's office and the police are trying to pressure Veziryan psychologically and make him take his appeal back.

We remind that on April 30 at 18:30, while representatives of the election headquarters of candidate of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) Arshak Banuchyan were passing out booklets during the NA election campaign, Tigran Manukyan hit representative of Helsinki Association Arman Veziryan's face in front of one of the houses located at Sedrak Sargsyan Street in Shengavit District (Arman Veziryan was at the mentioned location for observation).

The HAK activist had placed one of the informative booklets near the entrance to one of the homes. At that moment, an almost 45-year old man came out of the house and screamed, "Take this and get out of here". The young man who had placed the booklet there apologized to the man. When eyewitness Arman Veziryan approached to take the booklet, the man cursed at Veziryan and hit him in the face twice, but Veziryan didn't hit him back.

On May 15, senior investigator of the RA Police in Shengavit district K. Sharoyan decided to instigate a criminal case and charged T. Manukyan with Article 118 of the RA Criminal Code.

On May 25, Helsinki Association's attorney Nina Karapetyants filed a petition to senior investigator of the RA Police in Shengavit district K. Sharoyan to add to the charge brought up against Manukyan, taking into account the fact that Manukyan's act contained not only the elements of the crime provided for by Article 118 of the RA Criminal Code, but also the elements of a crime provided for by Article 149 of the RA Criminal Code.
