Reason for balloon explosion is known
The explosion of the balloons filled with metan gas during the May 4 rally organized by the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) at Republic Square was due to high air temperature and the influence of fire. This is the conclusion presented by experts that comes after comprehensive forensic explosive-technical, forensic fire-technical and forensic substance examinations.
We remind that 179 people asked for medical treatment after the explosion, and expert examinations were scheduled to find out the degrees of injuries that the explosion had caused. According to the examinations, 107 people received light injuries, 1 received a heavy injury, 48 received injuries that were viewed as critical but satisfactory, 18 received injuries that didn't contain elements of damage, and 5 persons received physical injuries.
In relation to the case, on the same day the investigation department of Special Important Cases of the Chief Investigative Department of the RA Police instigated a criminal case under the elements of Article 240 (1) of the RA Criminal Code and even established an operative-investigative group.
