NCTR has work to do
"Broadcasting in Armenia is truly ridiculous," says President of the Committee in Defense of Freedom of Speech Ashot Melikyan. At the same time, Melikyan says he is against purifying broadcasting through the methods proposed in the open letter addressed to Serzh Sargsyan. Ashot Melikyan proposes to change the law "On Television and Radio". Since 2000, the Committee has said that several provisions stated in the law go against international norms.
"We need to make the National Commission on Television and Radio carry out its functions and make sure that television companies work in accordance with the legislation and the license that they have obtained. This shouldn't be done selectively, but equally. The NCTR shouldn't simply fine a television company for doing something wrong and keep silent when it sees that another company passes the limit of advertisements. It should be very objective to see to what extent the given television company's activities correspond to the law," says Ashot Melikyan.
