Unprecedented action in Shushi

An inaugural contemporary art project will be held in Shushi on October 1-14, 2012. About 20 art experts from both Armenia and the Diaspora will participate in the event, and an exhibition of local painters be organized.
The program will cover such forms of modern art as photography, open-air exhibitions, video art, land art, and others. Within the program's framework, famous director Syzan Khardalyan will instruct local students, and photographer German Avagyan will hold a charity action for families of freedom fighters killed in the war. The artists will work in well-known historical and cultural buildings of Shushi. Roundtables with journalists, local and invited art experts as well as a concert of the Narekatsi Art Union's chorus are scheduled to take place. The whole festival will be filmed. After the project is completed, it will be presented in Yerevan, at TUMO creative arts center. Some of the works created in Shushi will be donated to the city.

The Shushi Art Project (ShAP)is an independent artistic initiative, aiming to start a contemporary art project-festival in the city of Shushi, the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, and hold it systematically. The NGO of the same name is responsible for organizing and holding the project. The goals of ShAP include making investments in Shushi through modern art events, highlighting the value of this city of strategic historical and cultural importance, and calling the attention of the public, tourists, artists and cultural institutions to this place.
