Successful anti-drug measures
A regular sitting of the RA interdepartmental commission on the fight against drug addition and drug trafficking took place today. The sitting was chaired by Secretary of the National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Baghdasaryan said: "Today we will summarize work done by Armenia's respective departments in the first half of 2012 within the framework of the fights against drug addiction and drug trafficking.
The studies submitted in 2011 give us occasion to say there has been a manifestation of stability in the fight against drug addition and drug trafficking. 1,525 cases were recorded in 2011, and there has been no growth compared with last year. Official data of the first half of 2012 shows that the number of drug addition related crimes declined by 34.2%. Various legal acts have been adopted, which has contributed to the prevention and decline in such crimes. The absence of a growth in violations is already a positive phenomenon, but we must also take steps to reduce their number consistently".
Then the members of the interdepartmental commission gave reports on work done by their respective departments under the 2009-2012 National Program on the Fight against Drug Addiction and Drug Trafficking in the Republic of Armenia. The speakers stated that all the measures envisaged by the program have been successfully implemented in the reporting period of 2012 and that they expect good results, the press service of the National Security Council reports.
