A group of citizens today held a silent protest near the presidential palace at 26 Baghramyan Avenue in commemoration of Monte (Monte Melkonian), a prominent commander during the Nagorno-Karabakh War.

The participants of the action were carrying a black poster which read, "You have abnegated Monte's blood."

Monte was killed in the abandoned Azerbaijani village of Merzili in the early afternoon of June 12, 1993, during the Battle of Aghdam. He was buried with full military honors on June 19, 1993 at Yerablur military cemetery in Yerevan, Armenia.
