"Is Armenia Independent in its Foreign Policy Decisions?" (video)
On April 8, 12 PM the Media Center will host a discussion entitled "Is Armenia Independent in its Foreign Policy Decisions?" The discussion is initiated by the Institute for War and Peace Reporting. The speakers are: Richard Giragosian, political expert, director of the Regional Studies Center (RSC), Alexander Iskandaryan, political expert, head of the Caucasus Institute. On March 27, the U.N. General Assembly adopted a resolution, reaffirming Ukraine's territorial integrity and deeming the March 16 referendum in Crimea illegal. Armenia and Belarus were the only post-Soviet countries that backed Russia in the United Nations against Ukraine. Officials say Armenia's support for Russia on Crimea was in the country's interests, but opposition and experts argue it shows how Armenia is gradually losing its sovereignty and ability to take independent decisions in its foreign policy.
