UNDER CRUMBLING

On 10 a crumbling took place in the mine belonging to “Dino Gold Mining” Company. In the result of the crumbing two miners suffered. Kapan rescuers took out two miners under crumbled mines, one of them was alive.

ELECTORATE REDUCED

There are two million 311 thousand 917 voters in the Republic of Armenia. The RA Passport and Visa Department submitted the Central Electoral Commission the register of Armenian voters according to polling stations.

GENERAL MANAGER OF “ARMENTEL” RESIGNS

The General Director of Armenian “ArmenTel” Telecommunications Company, Oleg Bliznyuk, resigned office on December 29, 2007. On January 9 “VimpelCom” officially confirmed the information.

HEATHEN WEDDING IN GARNI

“I shall profess heathenism for the rest of my life. It doesn't contradict my nationality. I associate heathenism with patriotism,” 23-year-old Ellen told A1+. Ellen got married last year. TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

A traffic accident occurred on Yerevan-Meghri highway at 10.50 p.m. on January 8. A “KAMAZ-53212” ran into a “VAZ-2106.”

ST SARGIS DAY

The All Armenian Catholicos Garegin II announced 21 January the Day of St Sargis this year. St Sargis is one of the popular saints in Armenia. He died for the sake of Christian belief together with his son Martiros and 14 soldiers.

FIRE

A fire broke out in the village of Nor Kharberd, Ararat Marz, at 01.53 January 1. Three fire brigades left for the scene. The fire was extinguished at 03.20 a.m.

ARMENIAN CIVILIAN DIED DURING LANDING

27-year-old Revik Grigorian died during a Moscow-Yerevan flight on the night of January 6. He felt bad during the flight. After taking his blood pressure the stewardess gave an alarm of immediate landing.

BMI INTRODUCES NEW CABIN BAGGAGE POLICY

bmi, London Heathrow’s second largest airline, is to introduce new cabin baggage rules with effect from Monday 7th January 2008, easing the "one bag rule" for hand luggage taken on flights, following the removal of certain restrictions at a number of UK airports by the Department for Transport.

FALSE ALARM

Sunday morning, January 6, 2008, Armenian Christmas Day, a false bomb scare disturbed the religious service of the Armenian Church in Paris, Jean Echian from Paris reports.

GOLD PRICE GOES UP

Today gold is sold at $20-22 per a gramme at Armenian markets. Tradespeople explain the stiff prices with the recent increase of oil prices and dollar devaluation.

On December 27 Gegham T. and Artak H. were taken to hospital from the “Omega” night club.

SHOOTING IN EREBUNI

At 00.40 on December 28 Erebuni resident Artyem Mkrtchian was taken to hospital. He died later that day. Mkrtchian had been shot in the chest.

THEY LONG FOR THEIR RELATIVES

Over 246 elderly people have found lodgings in a retirement home in Chorrord Village. The state budget daily allots 2450 drams for each of them. A total of 200580 drams are earmarked to the retirement home a month.

FOUND BURNT

A fire broke out in apartment 25 on Lukashin Street, Yerevan, at 2.02 a.m. December 28. The fire was extinguished at 3.06.

NUMBER OF HOMELESS IS UNKNOWN

Thousand families will meet the New Year in the streets in 2008. Among such families is Violeta Grigoryan’s family, who moved to Armenia from Azerbaijan in 1989.

LORRY TURNED OVER

On 26 December a lorry turned over in Ararat region. Andranik Aznavuryan, resident of Ajntap village of Ararat region, born in 1964 was taken to “Erebuni” medical center in Yerevan. According to doctors his state is serious.

MURDERED FOR MONEY

Resident of the Islamic Republic of Iran Rezepur Husein, 1960 was shot dead in Leningradian Street at 10.45 p.m., December 25. He had been shot in the chest, head and feet.

FIRE

On December 25 a fire broke out in Norashen village, Ararat marz. In the result, a 150-square meter roof of the house belonging to G. Avetissian burnt down.

DISAPPOINTMENT

The representative of the RA Government was harsh and rude during the meeting with the former employees of “Hydroaparat” OLC and did not respond to their questions properly. The employees demanded meeting with the RA Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan during their last demonstration.
