Nairit plant employees demand meeting with Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan (video)
Employees of the Nairit plant are now gathered outside the government building in Yerevan shouting, “We want our salaries!” “Prime Minister, come out and talk to us!” “Repay your debts!”
The employees gathered outside the plant early in the morning to demand their unpaid salaries for 18 months. Then they headed to the government to speak to Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan. The protesters say their dismissal is illegal since the plant has not paid off their debts. Nor do they know definitely when the salaries will be paid.
A few days ago, many employees of the plant employees received notifications of dismissal. From February 6, the plant will employ only 500 people, the other 1700 employees will be laid off.
Nairit Plant CJSC, which produces chloroprene rubber and was considered a giant of its kind during the Soviet era, hasn’t been operating since 2010. Only 500 of its 2500 employees work in the plant today, others are on compulsory layoff. The plant was founded in 1940. Nairit owes 5 milliard 768 million drams to its employees.
