Renowned pianist Evgeny Kissin will perform a solo concert in Armenia with the framework of Yerevan Perspectives International Music Festival. The concert will be held at the Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet on April 2.

The program features Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 21, Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 4, Chopin nocturnes and mazurkas, Liszt’s Rákóczi March.

Festival manager Sona Hovhannisyan says Kissin is a good friend of Armenia and the festival. “When he first came to Armenia, he promised to return to the country again. A few months ago Kissin said he would be visiting Armenia with a new program,” she said.

“He is performing this program on the world’s best stages. The concert is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide,” Hovhannisyan added.

Kissin was born in 1971 in Moscow to a Russian Jewish family. At the age of six, he began piano studies at the esteemed Gnessin State Musical College for Gifted Children and became a student of Anna Kantor, who remained his only piano teacher. At the age of ten, Kissin made his debut performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 and gave his first recital a year later in Moscow. Kissin has since received numerous music awards and honors.
