Electricity price hike blamed on nuclear plant repairs (video)
The reoperation of Nairit plant is inappropriate at present, Armenia's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Yervand Zakharyan, speaking about the preliminary results of a study funded by the World Bank. The minister says large sums are required for restarting the plant, besides, it is still unknown whether the plant’s product can be taken to leading markets. Mr Zakharyan accounted the electricity price hike for the unplanned repairs of the plant and the dry season. “The Electric Networks of Armenia cannot be blamed for the suspension of the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant operations in 2012-2014, dry years, and incomplete operation of hydroelectric power stations which caused a number of problems in the Electric Networks of Armenia,” he said.
