“Gaspari was detained for failing court hearings”
Nelli Baghdasaryan, Judge of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan Shengavit Administrative District, decided to choose detention as a measure of restraint against the civic activist Vardges Gaspari due to his behavior. “He didn’t attend the court hearings, as a result of which the court hearings failed; the court thinks that during the investigation of the case the presence of defendant Vardges Gaspari can be ensured only in case of choosing detention as a measure of restraint against him,” reads the decision of the court. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint against Vardges Gaspari was discussed with the initiative of the court. To remind, on February 19 the court decided to change the measure of restraint against Vardges Gaspari- the written cognizance not to leave the city, for detention. Vardges Gaspari is charged with offending two police officers during one of the court hearings and impeding the normal course of the court hearing. The court hearing will take place on February 26. Before that the advocates appealed the decision of choosing detention as a measure of restraint against Vardges Gaspari in the Court of Appeal, but the day of court hearing hasn’t been set yet.
