21-year-old girl – candidate for Pshatavan village council
After graduating from university in Yerevan, 21-year-old Lilit Grigoryan makes an unexpected decision – to become a candidate for Pshatavan village council of Armavir region, “It is not easy to make such kind of decisions, because especially in case of a young girl disappointment and diversity of opinions are inevitable.”
Lilit can often hear expressions like “You’re a young girl, why do you need it?” “You will have troubles because of it”, “Try to be far from all these”, but she is sure that for realizing her ambition, she must put all her efforts. The Council candidate is very enthusiastic and hopes that nothing will break her down; you can win even having thirteen “rivals”.
“90% of villagers think that the Council by itself is a useless structure and they take every promise with irony. I tell this from my experience, as I tried to explain in a very narrow circle, that the Council is a mighty power, that projects can be carried out, but they accepted all this with a grin”.
Lilit is young and her chances to win will be based on this as well as on the fact that she is known as a very perspective person. The motto of the candidate for Pshatavan village council is: “The future of the youth lies in the hands of youth”.
“I want to make the young fellows, who don’t imagine their lives in the village because of some reasons, understand that all their abilities are very necessary for the rural development. The group of the kindergarten was closed because of financial problems and the village administration took up its financing. Well, we understand that there is crisis, but there are many individuals who could help by making some small investments and “save” the group, this is definitely one of the numerous problems, which need urgent solutions.”
One of the goals of Lilit is to break down the stereotype, that a young woman is not able to make system changes.
