Russian political expert Alexander Krilov doesn’t think that in the current situation Turkey may become a full participant in the Karabakh conflict resolution. He expressed his opinion via video call during the discussion organized by the Media Center. “If Turkey opens the border with Armenia, if it stops supporting Azerbaijan, the situation in Karabakh issue may normalize.” According to the CSTO rules, the Secretary General of the organization changes every three years. But at present it isn’t maintained, but there is also no restriction that the same person may assume the post more than once. Alexander Krilov comments on the fact that Armenia’s representative wasn’t appointed in that position, “We at once face the problem who Armenia nominated for the post. We can list several surnames, but it wasn’t announced that the candidacy was officially submitted for confirmation. If the Armenian side wanted its candidate to become a Secretary General of the CSTO, it must have come to an agreement with other members of the organization,” says Krilov. He says that we shouldn’t wait that Russia will dictate its stance to Kazakhstan and Belarus, by supporting Armenia in the issue of candidacy. “The Armenian side didn’t carry out preliminary activities connected with that issue. It offered its candidate on “love and marry” principle, and didn’t think about the opinion of fiancés. There must be an agreement and there won’t be any problems anymore.” The political expert thinks that the official must be not only a military figure, but also diplomat. “The CSTO had such Secretaries, who performed themselves as military figures, and didn’t carry out diplomatic activities,” he added.
