According to the data of the State Employment Agency, as of December 31, 2016, 95 thousand 800 people are looking for a job. According to the Deputy Head of the Agency Garik Sahakyan, employees of both high and vocational qualification are in demand. In general, the number of job seekers in Armenia has increased by 8,8 %. In order to connect the job seekers and employers, the State Employment Agency annually organizes job fairs in Yerevan and regions. As a result of 11 job fairs organized in 2016, 406 out of 15 000 participants have found a job. Not always the desires of an employer and a job seeker coincide. “There are cases, when the salary is really low, as the employer is able to pay that much, of course, within the law. Irrespective of everything, the employers are to decide who to hire according to their professional needs,” noted Mr Sahakyan. The State Employment Agency is planning to hold 10 job fairs in 2017. According to the words of Garik Sahakyan, this year they will try to make the programs more targeted. The issue of employment of the people with disabilities remains a serious problem. In terms of that the State Employment Agency is looking for solutions. “In terms of the people with disabilities we have a compensation program, which compensates to the employer; we adjust the workplace of a person with disability. We have problems connected with the employment of people with disabilities, as we have about 95 thousand registered job seekers and only 3-4 percent of them are registered as people with disabilities.” The number of jobless women continues to remain high in the republic, which makes up 66 percent of the unemployed. The number of jobless young people makes up 23.8 percent of the unemployed, and the number of jobless people with disabilities is 3.6 percent. Watch the video for more details!
