Children from Artavan at eco-festival with grandmothers’ gata (video)
“Young biologists association” and “Jermuk development center” NGOs for already second time have organized eco-tourism festival in Artavan village of Vayots Dzor. The festival aims at encouraging development of ecotourism in Armenia, as well as increasing the level of awareness on preservation of biodiversity. The residents of Artavan irrespective of their age displayed all their skills and attractions. These children brought gata made by their grandmothers; they don’t complain of the sun, they want to sell several pieces of gata. Davit studies at college, lives in one of the dormitories in Yerevan, he is a judoka. The festival is a good opportunity for assisting the family; he makes wonderful juice of banana, strawberry and apricot. Horats (dug-in cheese), cakes, pickles Mrs Tatev introduces old dishes of Vayots Dzor- Chmur, which will be served with omelet and pickles, as well as soup with white greens and Karshyn, which is made with nuts. Girls sell boiled corn, different pies, which they made by themselves. The festival is accompanied by folk dances and those, who don’t know how to dance, learn it. A group of young people is going to sleep in tents; on the next day many games await them, including search of treasures Artavan has a wonder lake called Hayelu Gyol or Karmir Lich (Red Lake), which green zones present the world map with all the details. It seems like a man drew it- North and South Americas, Africa, Europe… The visit of the journalists was organized by the Armenian branch of World Wildlife Fund, which is on the bases of establishment and presentation of eco-corridor. Artavan is also included in that corridor with its biodiversity. The area starts from Khosrov Forest Reserve and ends near Zangezur Reserve. Hire is the map. Hasmik Budaghyan Watch more in the video!
