IMF REPRESENTATIVE SAYS ARMENIAN AUTHORITIES ACCOMPLISHED IN OVERCOMING FINANCIAL CRISIS AND REDUCIN
Support A1+!The head of International Monetary Fund’s Armenian office James Mackey said Thursday at a news conference the three-year term of the $105,3-credit given to Armenia to reduce poverty and spur economic growth in the republic was already expired.
Armenian Central Bank governor Tigran Sargssyan, finance minister Vardan Khachtryan as well as presidential adviser on economic affairs Vahram Nersissyan were present at the news conference.
The IMF head pointed out some visible progress in energy sphere comparing with the situation in 2001, when the credit program was launched. He also said Armenia managed to overcome bank crisis and reduce poverty. In his words, a few years ago the country plunged in financial chaos and was on the verge of bank crisis.
James Mackey expressed his personal gratitude to Armenia’s authorities.
Vahram Nersissyan, in turn, thanked the IMF on behalf of Armenian president. Tigran Sargssyan expressed gratitude on behalf of Armenian Central Bank.
The finance minister said the republic authorities had decided to ask the IMF for another credit for three years. However he gave no other details.
