STRATEGIC RESOURCES NATIONAL CENTRE CONTINUES FRUITLESS DISCUSSIONS
Support A1+!Upcoming elections were on the top of the agenda of the round table held Tuesday by National Centre of Strategic Resources. The Centre was trying to learn how much the Election Code corresponds to the criteria of democracy. Ph. Dr. Hrayr Tovmasyan thinks the Code formally meets international standards of election right. There is a secret system of voting as well as contest principle in the Code, he says. In his opinion the only omitting is that considerable part of the republic population are missing the elections because of health problems. Many of doctors, judges and others are not able to vote because they are working for long hours, Tovmasyan says.
The Election Code’s another defect, as he says, is servicemen deprivation of voting while the same Code doesn’t prohibit servicemen from announcing their candidacies for parliamentary elections.
Hrayr Tovmasyan is convinced some Code provisions are senseless: in particular, the candidates, submitted false income declarations, won’t suffer legal consequences for that.
Tovmasyan’s speech as well is unlikely to have any impact on the republic election institutions.
