ECOLOGY IS STILL CAUSING PROBLEMS

He evaluates the ecological state of Yerevan as satisfying. “Municipal service began working more intensively, there is progress”. Centre periodically organises visits. As a result of them, 1250 cases for ecological breaches were registered from January 1, 2001 till January 15, 2003.
Nevertheless, there are problems over air, water pollution in Yerevan. Centre head said changes in ecology part in Administrative Code are important. As an ecological fine, last year 20.000 drams were exacted. If the changes were made earlier, that sum would make 2-3 million drams.
“Trees were cut and they will be, but fine will make people stop that” , Karayan said.
