MASHTOTS READINGS IN OSHAKAN
Support A1+!”The 6th Mashtots Readings” have started today in Oshakan with a prayer “to receive a new cognitive impetus“, Bishop Navasard Kchoyan, leader of Araratian Diocese explained.
Academicians, historians, linguists and archaeologists were present for the 6th reading of Mashtots’s works. They came after having laid flowers on the grave of Mesrop Mashtots.
The 1600th anniversary of invention of Armenian written language will be in 2005. According to Navasard Kchoyan, the invention was the result of making efforts to translate the Bible. He reminded that it was carried out in the 5th century by the efforts of clergymen and state officials though there wasn’t statehood.
Vladimir Barkhudaryan, Vice-Chair of National Academy of Sciences, expressed wish that the humanities in Armenia are now treated the way as it was in the 5th century. According to him, the natural sciences received grant of about $ 2 million in 2003. He also said the humanities are not sponsored by grants, which hampers progress of them.
