Social

The staff of General and Inorganic Chemistry Institution of National Academy of Sciences has today held a press conference to inform that Yerevan Municipality has sold the 1-hectare land of the institution.

According to institution director Sevand Davtyan, Yerevan Municipality has illegally sold a ground area at auction, which it didn’t own. “By the way, 4200 square meters located nearby the chemical laboratories were sold by auction”. He also said residing beside the territories is harmful for the population while luxurious mansions are already built on the sold lands.

”Municipality has sold the 3000 square meters at 3 million drams /1000 drams per square meter/ and the buyer has resold 500 square meters at 9 million drams”, Sevand Davtyan mentioned the surprising fact.

Under the land allocating decision made in 1966, the total area of Inorganic Chemistry Institution makes about 9 hectares and the buildings cover the 4,7 hectares out of it. Davtyan and the conference participants assure that lands have been sold since 2002. Under Government decision of 10.10.2002, the state structures, including the buildings that belonged to National Academy of Sciences, the territories they occupied were to be made more accurate, and the rights for real estate were to be registered stately within 10 days.

Institution lawyer Naira Karapetyan said that they have appealed to Court with request to declare the acts of state officials invalid.

Sevand Davtyan said that he had sent letters on the problem to President, Parliament Speaker and Prime Minister. PM set Yerevan Mayor a task to settle the issue. After all Mayor said nothing can be done over the built houses, and as to the other lands, something will be thought out.
