SMOKING IS HARMFUL

Annually over 900 patients with lung cancer are registered'', Vahe Ter-Minasyan, the chairman of the commission on public relations of the Armenian Association of Doctors stated during the ''Struggle against smoking'' seminar held in the Union of Journalists today. In his words, doctors assure that smoking causes lung diseases. In Armenia smoking shortens the lives of men for 17 years.
Vahe Ter-Minasyan noted that the bill ‘’On Sale, Consumption and Limits on Tobacco Use” was adopted on December 24, 2004. However it did not exert any influence as cigarette advertisements can be seen everywhere. ''Tobacco industry is very rich and can conduct active advertising campaign”, Vahe Minasyan said. He called mass media to take part in the struggle against smoking. Besides, a center for free aid to smokers will be opened.
