17 YEARS LATER

Social

After the disastrous earthquake of 1988 17 families from Gyumri have not returned to their homeland and continue to live in the hotel “Erebuni”. «I have no money to visit the graves of my relatives», told Svetlana Araqelyan, handicapped of the second group.

Today the part of the hotel in which they live has been sold, and the situation of the people is hopeless. For the last 17 years even the minimal living conditions have not been secured in the temporary flats. Their residents live with their old-age pension and the financial aid of several relatives.

The residents of the hotel “Erebuni” no more hope to return to Gyumri. But they assure that in case of trying to evict them they will go on a sit-down strike right opposite the Government building.
