DEMANDING WITH NO HOPE

Social

Wives of political prisoners have been standing in front of the Prosecutor General’s building every Friday for seven consecutive months with signs reading “It’s a shame”, “Freedom to Political Prisoners” and “We demand you to punish the criminals of March 1”. They continue to claim that their husbands are innocent and were sentenced based on false testimonies.

“They sentenced my husband just because he was head of the Armenian National Movement Hrazdan affiliate and one of Levon Ter-Petrosian’s proxies during the presidential elections. They gave him 6 years and the Appeals Court didn’t change the verdict,” told “A1+” Aram Bareghamian’s wife. She noted that she doesn’t trust Armenian courts and hopes that the European Court will acquit her husband based on the fact that he was a victim of police actions.”

Today the wives of the political prisoners handed the 27th letter to the Prosecutor General demanding the release of their husbands who had been locked up for their political views, but they don’t have hopes that this letter will be an exception to the 26 letters sent previously.

“We’re ready to go all the way for the release and independence of our husbands, our brothers and friends,” said the demonstrators.

The women’s demonstration will continue next Friday.
