ARMENIA WON IN THE OLYMPIAD AGAIN

Sports

The Armenian chess team is the strongest once again. Armenian chess players won China in the Chess Olympiad in Dresden today 2:5:1:5 and kept the championship title after being declared champion in 2006.

Armenia was competing against China in the 11th final tournament. If China won, they would steal the championship title from Armenia, but Armenian chess players did not let them have that chance.

Armenian grosmeisters had an advantage on four chessboards. It was clear that the Chinese could only hope for a 0-0 game. That was enough for Armenia to become a champion because Ukraine lost to the U.S. 0-2. The Armenian and Ukrainian teams were tied at the end of the 10th tournament, but Armenia was ahead with extra points.

Levon Aronyan (2757) and Vang Yu (2736) finished first with 0-0 and this was the same for Vladimir Hakobyan (2679) and Bu Hiantszi (2714). After a short while, Tigran Petrosyan won Li Chao and moved Armenia forward, while Gabriel Sargsyan played a 0-0 game with Ni Hua.

“A1+” congratulates the Armenian chess team, all chess players and our nation on the occasion of this beautiful victory.
