When September comes around
All school yards were full of first graders, while streets were full of cars and police officers on the occasion of Knowledge Day. Fortunately, there were no traffic jams or accidents.
All bells rang an hour later than 9 a.m. and school yards were decorated with colorful balloons, bouquets and music.
Although parents were in a festive mood, many of them confessed that it was rather hard to buy stationery and clothes for their children due to social issues.
First graders were a little confused as they stood with bouquets in their hands, awaiting the launch of the celebration.
All first graders at the school named after Pushkin had badges with their first and last names on them. We asked head of the one of the elementary school grades Arusyak Aznauryan why they had put on the badges. She said that one of the purposes was for everyone at school to know the first graders and be careful with them.
People were in a festive mood at the Chekhov school as well. Principal Gayane Sarukhanyan made a speech, although there were rumors that the school principal was going to be Serzh Sargsyan's 25-year old daughter Anush Sargsyan. The priest gave his blessing and Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan's address was read at the end.
