Absences made up 10% on the first day when schools reopened, informed head of the public education department of the RA Ministry of Education and Science Narine Hovhannisyan.

Let us remind that the RA Ministry of Health demanded to shut down schools for 3 weeks due to the swine flu.

The first quarter of the semester will end in late January. Five-day schools will work for six days, while six-day schools will increase class hours to fill in the gap of the hours. Schools will work this way until all hours are filled.

In response to the rumors among teachers that they will not receive salaries for January, head of the public education department said: "I don't know about that, but I am certain that teachers will certainly receive their salaries."

Narine Hovhannisyan also mentioned that teachers worked in December as well. They went to schools, took part in consultations and held methods sessions.

As far as the shutdown of kindergartens until February 1, Hovhannisyan said that the kindergartens belong to the districts and they were closed due to heating problems. Out of the 160 kindergartens, 52 have heating.
